Visiting M.S. Rau Antiques.  The shop, located on Royal Street, is filled with amazing treasures that one could easily spend a few hours enjoying. There are items from royalty, beautiful china, and other finery that can easily fill your day.  But something special about the establishment is the secret backroom. There was no obvious mention on the outside, or the inside, however to visit the backroom, one needs to request a tour.  The encounter was amazing as one can see several masterpieces up close and personal - just no touching!

We were quite fortunate that staff was available for the visit which as usual - we didn’t plan in advance, just sort of looked it up and went.  Let me say, for me, this was better than going to a museum.

Firstly, the tour was with just one staff member, Alex and me and no one else! And, an awesome aspect was that we were made to feel welcome. The staff members all around were so professional, patient and kind.  All our questions were answered and we were never rushed through this experience.

Imagine seeing Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Rockwell, Leyendecker, Wagner-Honenberg, Pissarro and more without people rushing about or school groups of uninterested children.  I hope you see the appeal, if you do then this might be worth a little side trip.

Here are a few photos that illustrate some of the wonders we saw at the time.
