I went to the desert or was it dessert?
In January of 2018, I was so lucky and visited the desert during a cross-country trip from Florida to California. It was awesome for me as I hadn't been in a desert before and now I had this amazing opportunity to walk and explore the desert. It was so sweet.
Which desert? Death Valley. And, it wasn't hot at all because it was January and really a beautiful time to go except it is pitch-black at 5:00 pm and I think I was asleep by 6:30 pm - but not sure if it was because of the darkness or Vegas the night before. Hmmm.
Where did you stay? A tent. Really, there is a lot of camping and I had the opportunity to use my cool weather sleeping bag - the only time I've ever used it since I bought it 7 months ago.
I learned so much. Like, it's rocky and you should have some kind of barrier between you and your sleeping bag because those rocks seem to align with your trigger points all over your body. Maybe next time I'll get a barrier. Also, it's really dry even in winter and you should bring extra water because it's sooo dry - you might snore. I didn't hear myself snore, but Mitch did and the look on his face when he woke me up to tell me I was snoring was something I will never forget - it was shook and maybe fear. So, bring a breathe right strip and water to hydrate and sleep on your side if you think you might snore. (sorry!)
Best thing to bring? A headlamp. So easy to walk around without holding a flashlight and all your stuff.
What did you see?
Our time in Death Valley was limited to an afternoon and night but we did see the visitor center, eat granola and listen to music and Jeopardy while driving through.
Would you go again? Absolutely. Taking a road trip is like going out for dessert: it's fun to share with your friends and you want more when it's over.
Dream, do and experience your life.
